IABC - New Media Seminar Podcast

Wednesday, April 12, 2006, at the Blackett Hotel, Sydney.

It was a great idea for the International Association Of Business Communicators to address the issue of New Media Communications. More than 40 members turned up to hear the speakers. You may miss the drinks and canapes, but you can get the information by listening to the podcast. It's new media in action!

Here are the speakers in order. Left click on their name to hear them live and right click to save.

Podcasting - Bob Hughes
Bob Hughes is from Corporate Communications and Counsel. He left the ABC 5 years ago after 20 years of successful broadcasting in Sydney. Since then he has concentrated on using his presentation and training skills in the corporate sector and with young media hopefuls. He has also developed the WellSpring, a 24/7 audio wellness channel on Foxtel and Austar, and dabbled in internet radio.  Viable audio delivery on the internet has re-invigorated his interest in connecting with an audience and helping other people also find their listeners. Podcasting can be a powerful niche modern corporate communication medium.

Blogging – Paul Crisp
Paul Crisp is a Corporate Affairs Manager in Telstra's Public Policy and Communications group. In this role he manages public affairs for Telstra's Consumer and Channels Division. He also leads Telstra's New Media project, managing the company's corporate blog, nowwearetalking and its podcast service. He has over 15 years communication experience, working in a variety of public affairs and marketing roles in Australia and overseas.

Webcasting – Nick Bolton
Nick Bolton is Sales and Marketing Manager for Viocorp, a full-service webcasting provider in Australia. Since Nick ran his first webcast in 2000, he has managed several hundred webcast productions for most of the top corporates in Australia, including Australia's first live medical operation to 40 venues globally. Video is a compelling business communication medium, and Nick demonstrated how video via the internet is an effective, scalable and innovative tool.

The seminar prompted a lively question time.

Some other useful new media links: Naked Conversations is the title to both a book and a blog about blogging.

Technorati is one of the best ways to search blogs to see what they are saying about your organisation. Google also has a blog search engine.

Liberated Syndication carries our podcasts. They're wonderfully cheap for the unmetered downloads that they provide.

Ian Macrae's Radio School is doing podcast classes in Sydney. The most recent graduates are carried here. If you'd like to see our current podcasting manual email us

Bob's wellness project is The WellSpring Flow Blog and Podcast home page.

The Wellspring Flow also carries the recent Yoga Conference Media Conference. You can listen to it through this link.

The WellSpring 24/7 audio can be found on Foxtel on Channel 830, then scroll to 'SPA'.
